About Freelancing, Wine and Music Festivals.
In 2022 I started my career as a freelance creative designer. It kicked off with a big client who gave me plenty of work and plenty of money. But clients come and go. And that one went. Since then, I’ve struggled quite a lot to find my place (and money). Still, I decided to remain freelance, because I can no longer work for the same company, same stuff every day, same people every day.
Then I discovered wine. And I decided to search for my place in wine. One day, after a tasting in a cellar in Cisternino (my hometown), I suggested to the owner that he redesign his wine labels. He told me he already had piles of labels waiting to be used, so maybe one day, but not that day. Later, he came back to me to design his EVO oil bottle label. It was a success. He liked it. His clients liked it. They still do. And then that day finally came: he called me back to design his new wine labels. Which is exactly what I’m doing these days.
Meanwhile, I knocked on other doors in Wineland. A bald (by choice), bizarre, sulfurous yet unsulphured little man opened his door, from a remote island in the Atlantic Ocean, basically the end of the world, as he likes to say. He welcomed me into a world of colors, smells, memories, terroirs, oversized egos, and adorable bullshit. Loved it. We decided to start a creative consultancy for the lost souls of Wineland. And here we are: two clients already; one, a brand new luxury wine from Gredos, Spain, the other, a well-known glass producer. And counting. Maybe. Hopefully. Wineland is fun, for now. Lots of egos, yes, but lots of wine too.
Anyway, a good way to find your place is to try different places. Before the wine-place, some years ago I tried the teaching-place. I teach digital design in a comic and fine arts school here in Barcelona. Still my place. I’m getting used to it. Second place: wine, still tasting it, as I said. Last year, 2024, I also tried the festival-place. I’m proud to say I organized a music festival in Barcelona with around 15,000 people attending. It was insanely hard, physically and mentally. But so much fun. So much. I want more. I’ll let you know.
And here it is: my first page of my personal journal.
